That Makes Sense: Terrell Owens’ Career Might Be Over Because He Tore His ACL On A Reality Show
This is worse.
According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Owens has recently undergone surgery to repair a torn ACL, an injury which could be enough to end the 37-year-old's career.
But the injury itself isn't the embarrassing part. What's disconcerting about Owens' exploded knee is how it happened: an unnamed source told Mortensen that T.O. tore the ligament while filming a reality TV show segment for VH1 earlier this year.
Which begs the question: is one of the the best wide receivers of the last 20 years really going to have to leave the game because of an accident filmed on a show that could wind up as the lead-in to Basketball Wives?
At first glance, this looks like the most fitting way Terrell Owens could close up shop. In an era of me-first wideouts, he was the most narcissistic, and if "pissing people off" was a stat that the NFL kept track of, he would be its all-time leader.
But it's not that simple. Because for all of Owens' preening and locker room cancering, he was a tough player. Remember: he once made it back from a severely sprained ankle and fractured fibula in just six weeks to play in Super Bowl XXXIX.
The timetable for a possible return is six months for T.O., but given his history of fast recovery, we might see him sooner. If this means that it'll prevent T.O. from making the jump to another cellar dweller, though... maybe this is the best way for him to exit the game.
