The Family Of Cowboys Tackle Tyron Smith Won’t Stop Harassing Him For Money
Former Cowboys first round pick and current starting left tackle Tyron Smith is a rich man due to a 4-year, $12.5 million contract singed in July 2011. He's also 6-5, 308 lbs., but can't seem to intimidate his family members enough to keep them away from his money. Smith, it turns out, has a long history of dealing with family trying to share in the wealth, and it's pretty uncomfortable. Earlier this week, it took a turn for the worse.
From the Dallas Morning News:
"On Tuesday afternoon, Dallas police responded to a 911 call to Smith’s North Dallas home, where siblings showed up to “harass and torment” him “in the pursuit of collecting financial gain,” according to the police report.
Smith, 21, has three sisters and two brothers. Two of the sisters were among at least three people who showed up at Smith’s home Saturday and Tuesday, sources said. The police report did not name the individuals."
This isn't Smith's first run-in with family members over money. His own mother, Frankie Pinkney, and stepfather, Roy Pinkney, have been harassing him for money for a while, leading Smith to file a protective order forbidding them from having any contact with him.
Even the Cowboys security staff is aware of their presence, having a "structure in place" to handle their further problems. The protective order was supposed to aid in that effort, banning the family from attending Cowboys training camp even though it took place only two hours from their home in Riverside, California. Still, that wasn't enough.
"During training camp, one of Smith’s family members had to be removed from the practice facility, according to Cowboys sources."
With the incidents piling up, Smith is reportedly "emotionally torn apart," over the issue. A completely understandable position for any person, but especially in light of the fact that last year, Smith was the NFL's youngest player. Families and friends of other athletes have been to known to try and skim some money
from their wealthy associates, but the lack of a solution to this matter is particularly troubling. Smith's family has seemingly gone beyond guilting him into forking over some cash - the usual tactic for such individuals. It's really just a horrible situation all around, and hopefully this gets resolved sooner rather than later.
