The Steelers Don’t Seem Too Upset About Losing LeGarrette Blount
LeGarrette Blount was cut by the Steelers yesterday after his Monday Night Football antics, which included leaving the field and trying to board the team bus before the game was over. Blount was upset about receiving zero carries in a game where teammate Le'Veon Bell had over 200 yards, and dealt with it in the most childish way possible, leading to his release.
Not surprising, many of his teammates interviewed weren't upset to see Blount gone. It sounds like his Monday night actions were part of a pattern, not just a one-time outburst. ("If it was a guy who has been here for a while and we know, and it was just a lapse in judgment and he was upset about something, I think it would be easier to look past" said QB Ben Roethlisberger). From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
"You know what, man, we have a good team," center and team captain Maurkice Pouncey said. "If you don't want to be here, don't be here. At the end of the day, you have your decision to make as a man, and he made it."
Pouncey said Blount's release was "a blessing in disguise."
"We're fine," Pouncey said. "We have our starting running back. It's probably a good thing that it happened. At the end of the day, if it was a cancer, he ended up leaving on his own. That's a blessing for us. At the end of the day, we're good. We don't need him."
"We're grown men and we need to act like grown men," defensive end Cam Heyward said. "If you're not on the field, that shouldn't be a problem. If you're not on the field, you have to make other contributions. We're a team. If you don't want to be a part of the team, don't be a part of the team. We're trying to win, and that's not going to be acceptable."
While some guys, like Antonio Brown, seemed to support Blount (as a human being, not his actions) this was the general consensus:
Steelers locker room basically to a man saying it had to be done -- release of Blount

As for where Blount ends up next: The market is pretty dry for a running back with a history of emotional issues who couldn't get a single touch against the Titans. Put it this way -- there's a reason we have a roundup of destinations for fellow disgruntled veteran RB Ben Tate, but not Blount.
