THEY HAVE RISEN: 2015 Will Be The Year That Bad Franchises Win Championships
Wouldn't it be funny if the Cavaliers played the Clippers in the NBA Finals? What about an ALCS between the Astros and the Royals opposite a Mets-Cubs NLCS? How about seeing "New York Jets Super Bowl Champions" on the cover of a non-satirical newspaper? What would someone in 1998 think if you told them that Anaheim would be playing Tampa Bay for Lord Stanley's Cup?
They'd say "Get the eff out of here," hit you over the head with a Sobe bottle and steal your time machine because those ideas are insane and WHO DOESN'T WANT A FREE TIME MACHINE??!
Don't get it twisted, though -- these scenarios, which would've been unfathomable in almost any other point in human history, are a terrifyingly plausible reality over the next nine months. North America's worst franchises (at least from a W-L perspective) have the unique opportunity to rise up in one coordinated, losery sports mutiny and batter down the walls built by decades of disappointment.
Eight of least successful major North American professional sports franchises (there are 122 in total) could very easily wind up playing for a championship this season. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling. Human sacrifice. Dogs and cats living together. Donald Trump as President. The Jets, Mets, Clippers and Lightning holding trophies and spraying champagne.
The hell is going on 2015? Did God start dropping acid?
