Tim Tebow And LeBron James Disagree With Merril Hoge About Tim Tebow
Remember yesterday, when ESPN analyst Merril Hoge sharply criticized Tim Tebow's quarterbacking skills, said the idea the Broncos could be winners with him at the helm was "embarrassing," used too many exclamation points, and showed an apparent unfamiliarity with the phrase "rah-rah" (he typed it twice, as "rare rare" and "raw raw")? Well, here's someone who remembers, and probably won't forget anytime soon: Tim Tebow. And on this issue, he has at least one friend in high places.
Tebow apparently caught wind of Hoge's comments, then took to Twitter to succinctly give his side:
Hey Merril...... 'ppreciate that
Indeed, Hoge's comments (which he clarified this morning, but still clearly has an unfavorable opinion of Tebow as a player) were so tailor-made for an eventual commercial about proving the doubters wrong that...Tebow's already made that commercial. (In fact, either Tebow is a really big fan of saying "'ppreciate that," or that retort was a reference to that very ad. Synergy, or something?)
Tebow's not the only one who thinks Hoge will eat his words, either. Around the time Tebow said his piece, he got some backing from a fellow athlete, one who knows a thing or two about media scrutiny: LeBron James. LeBron apparently has stronger feelings about Tebow than any of us realized, and let us know it:
Tim Tebow will succeed in the NFL. He's a hard worker, a student of the game, a natural born leader and most of all a WINNER! It takes time and he'll be nice
Listened to Merril Hoge today on SC and he was just blasting Tebow. The man hasn't even play a full season and its only his 2nd year in.
Guys get on that TV and act like they was all WORLD when they played. How bout encouraging him and wishing him the best instead of hating!!
Of course, "encouraging him and wishing him the best" isn't exactly an analyst's job - it's on Tebow to prove Hoge wrong, and we imagine he's awfully fired up to do just that. And re: guys who weren't "all world" not being qualified to analyze the game...silly LeBron. Don't you know that was yesterday morning's controversy?
