Tom Brady Suspension Overturned: Fantasy Football Impact And Updated Rankings
Boom goes the dynamite. Sorry NFL, Tom Brady is back. The courts have overturned Tom Brady's suspension. That's right... Tom Brady will be playing Week 1 and all 16 games for the Patriots. The question on Fantasy Football owner's minds is, "What do the words 'Tom Brady suspension overturned' mean for me?"
For Brady, he's back in the Top 10, at No. 7 for me. Remember, even as good as Brady and the Patriots were last year, he still finish as QB9 behind Ryan Tannehill, Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger. I'll take Brady's reliability over Tanny and Big Ben, but Ryan stays ahead of him for me. As for Rob Gronkowski, he was always the best tight end. It was worth taking him in the first round of PPR leagues, and that doesn't change now. In fact, it likely brings the doubters back around and bumps his ADP a tad. He's still at 12th overall in standard and 11th in PPR in the rankings.
The running game is what it always was: led by LeGarrette Blount... after his suspension... we think. It's the Patriots. I'll take Blount as my RB3, but like heck I want the headache of dealing with Bill Belichick and his running back nonsense. You'll see I have him at RB25 in standard, but the Jonas Gray noise is worth some concern. In fact, I have Gray as a RB5 just in case he gets another crack this year.
At receiver, Julian Edelman sees a slight bump. He's barely outside the Top 20 receivers in standard, but as always, he's one of the few receivers that gets a nice boost in PPR (WR16). After that though, there are too many questions, including the health of Brandon LaFell and Danny Amendola, plus the addition of Reggie Wayne. I'll still take LaFell as a flier based on his potential with Brady at quarterback (watch LaFell play Week 1, ha) and maybe even make my last pick on Wayne just in case he has some gas left and Brady helps him find it.
No matter what you do in your draft, everyone who took a gamble on Brady already is loving life just as much as the Patriots and Brady are right now.
As we head into the final week of the preseason, it is time for another Fantasy Football player rankings update. This time, we see Brandon LaFell take a big tumble, Arian Foster move up a few spots and Chris Ivory get even more love from me. There's actually a nice collection of running backs in that tier this year. You know I love taking a running back early, but if you can get a Chris Ivory and Ameer Abdullah (or similar) with a receiver duo such as Dez Bryant and Mike Evans, consider me sold.
Previous (previous) Update:
I can't even update my 2015 Fantasy Football rankings weekly. Thanks to injuries and suspensions, it feels as if I'm updating them daily! Martavis Bryant has been suspended by the NFL, and while he's appealing, it's time to adjust the ranks again! The previous major change came after Jordy Nelson tore his ACL. You can read the full breakdowns via the links. Keep these rankings bookmarked. From now on, I'm going to simply update this piece with all of the "breaking news" so you don't have to continually search "2015 Fantasy Football player rankings" to find the update lists.
