Tony Romo Has Taken The Rob Lowe Role In Those Creepy DirecTV Commercials
What I'd much rather see:
"Hi, I'm 1995 Jerry Jones, and I have DirecTV."
"And I'm 2015 facelift Jerry Jones, and I have cable."
But instead we get Tony Romo, who has been chosen as the successor to Rob Lowe in the commercials touting the TV system that brings NFL games to your home via a big metal dish.
Lowe, of course, made a splash with his alter-ego-summoning pitch, in which he had DirecTV, and his awkward/creepy/ineffectual/possibly murderous doppelganger was stuck with cable. Some of them were pretty good (peaked-in-high-school Rob Lowe) and some were alarming (super creepy Rob Lowe, at the pool watching people swim).
Tony Romo debuts his alter-ego, artsy-crafty Tony Romo, above. And here's what I noticed immediately: artsy-crafty Tony Romo is a much better actor than regular Tony Romo. The latter is stiff and barely engaged, while the former is actually interesting to watch. I have a feeling that if artsy-crafty Tony Romo suited up on Sundays, the Cowboys could possibly get to the Super Bowl.
