Tony Romo Tells Tom Brady: ‘See You In February’ … Hahaha Oh, He Was Serious?
Unless they're planning a couples cruise of French waterways that they found on Fodor, one has to wonder what the hell Tony Romo was talking about when he met Tom Brady at midfield on Sunday. It was following the Cowboys' 30-6 loss to the Patriots, and Romo was trying to engage Brady with witty remarks.
"I'll see you in February." Yes, the French countryside is lovely that time of year.
New England may be headed for the Super Bowl -- the Patriots are undefeated, after all. But it's early, and does Romo know how hard it is to make a back-to-back appearances in that game? Come to think of it, no, he doesn't.
And the Cowboys' chances of getting there? Ummm ... Magic Eight-Ball says: "Does not look promising." Or to paraphrase Robert Duval in True Grit: "That's bold talk for a man in a sling."
Now let's examine the body language here. Romo, a pretty accomplished pro quarterback in his own right, approaches Brady, and Brady all but ignores him. Romo gets a passing smile, as Brady moves on to mingle. It's like George Clooney encountering David Spade at a cocktail party. "Yeah, hi ... oh there's Clive Owen. You you later, um, Dennis?"
All in all pretty humiliating. If I'm an injured Romo? I watch from a luxury box and head to the limo midway through the fourth quarter. He's not on the sideline to inspire anyone or offer sage advice. The Cowboys are not a democracy, and orders flow downward from Jason Garrett, with most of those originating from texts by Jerry Jones. This train does not stop at Romoville.
