TROLL TWEET OF THE YEAR: Panthers Twitter Destroys Odell Beckham Jr.
December 20 / Tanya Ray Fox / SportsGrid
By now you've probably heard that the Panthers vs. Giants game was epic. The Giants overcoming a 35-13 third quarter deficit only to lose by a field goal as time expired would have been drama enough, but the even more surprising game narrative was what went down between Odell Beckham Jr. and Josh Norman.
Hailed as the best skill position matchup of the season so far, it lived up to the expectations; but not in the way that you probably wold have expected. Beckham Jr. spent three-and-a-half quarters tussling, taunting, tripping, slapping and all-out head hunting Norman. He racked up unnecessary roughness penalties and made a fool of himself trying to overcompensate against the Panthers cornerback, and was therefore not only ineffective for most of the game, but an actual detriment to his team.
That is, until he caught the game-tying pass from Eli Manning. Despite having had an incredibly rough game, from which many people will argue that he should have been ejected, he celebrated with all the humility of Donald Trump.
Of course, tying the game isn't winning it. The Panthers and their fearless leader Cam Newton took every advantage of their final possession, and finished the game still undefeated at 14-0.
Their greatest victory of the day though was this tweet they posted after the game:
That's how you troll, plain and simple. Not only did the Panthers win the game and expose some alarming flaws in Odell Beckham's game, but they got the last word by burning him with his own premature celebration - one that never should have happened after the game he'd had.
Plus, they get bonus points by seamlessly working Santa into their trolling. Nice work all-around, Panthers.
