Dallas Fans React To Jeff Van Gundy’s Comments On Dallas Fans
It's a tricky proposition lumping in a city's NBA fan base with their NFL-counterparts, mostly because they aren't necessarily the same people. Sure, most Mavericks fans are Cowboys fans, but there's a sizeable chunk outside the middle of the Venn diagram that Mavs fans might not want to be associated with. There's a reason we have NFL fan brawl videos every Monday -- football fans tend to be more aggressive, violent and politically incorrect than basketball fans. Wednesday night, Jeff Van Gundy aligned the people booing DeAndre Jordan at American Airlines Arena with the people who have been cheering for Greg Hardy at AT&T Stadium.
It was a bold statement wrapped in a few sweeping generalizations, but the point still stands: there are sports fans in the Dallas area who can't look past DeAndre Jordan's free agency change of heart, but can look past Hardy's brutal history of domestic violence. Not surprisingly, his choice of words struck a nerve.
The reaction of Mavericks fans varied, with some distancing themselves from the Cowboys, while others chose to distinguish their support for the Cowboys from their support (or lack thereof) for Hardy. To Van Gundy's point, however, if Dallas fans really cared about Jerry Jones' decision to employ a man as reprehensible as Hardy, they'd protest or boycott or even just hold up signs at the game -- or boo him like they did with DeAndre Jordan. But they don't. The fan base's lack of visible outrage looks like support for Hardy, and that's what J.V.G. was getting at.
@MikeAndMike Van Gundy should just focus on being a commentator. We can cheer or jeer who we want to cheer or jeer...

Van gundy assuming all "Dallas fans" support hardy is the dumbest thing you could say to insult a city. Get a better announcer @espn

Don't bring Cowboys, Greg Hardy drama onto my #Mavs. Looking at you, Van Gundy.

Does Jeff Van Gundy know that Dallas fans might just be rooting for their team, the Cowboys, and not necessarily Greg Hardy and his actions?

Curious how Jeff Van Gundy can tell the difference between a fan cheer for Greg Hardy and a cheer for the Cowboys.

Van Gundy's comments are dumb.... Sorry not all Mavs fans are Cowboys fans, and not all Cowboys fans are Greg Hardy fans

Does Van Gundy know that most Cowboys fans actually hate Greg Hardy?

I like Van Gundy, but that's an incredibly dumb statement to assume because we cheer for the Cowboys, we cheer for that trash Greg Hardy.
