VIDEO: Doug Martin Breaks All Of The Tackles For Impressive 30-Yard Run
Even though it's still just preseason the NFL is already serving up some amazing highlight-worthy football. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T QUIT YOU, NFL.
Star rookie quarterback Jameis Winston started the game off for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their Monday Night Football preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but it was three-year veteran running back Doug Martin that stole the show with an absolutely epic 30-yard run to the one yard line that featured him breaking about twenty-five tackles all at once.
Tiny but mighty running backs are just so much fun to watch.
Nicknamed "The Muscle Hamster" for obvious reasons, Martin burst onto the NFL landscape in 2012 as a late first-round draft pick out of Boise State. His phenomenal rookie debut had many people convinced that he was the next great running back; perhaps even the answer that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had been looking for. He was a candidate for Rookie of the Year and went to the Pro Bowl as an alternate.
Then he just fell off. He hit the classic sophomore slump and never really got things back on track. Although you can hardly place the sole blame on him as the Bucs have been a maligned organization from top to bottom for a very long time.
After accumulating 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns on 319 carries and contributing another 472 yards receiving in his rookie campaign, Martin has had a combined 261 carries for 950 yards and 3 touchdowns over the last two seasons. If Winston turns out to be the franchise quarterback that the Bucs have been searching so long for, maybe the Muscle Hamster will finally be able to live up to his potential.
Plus that nickname is headline perfection and way too awesome to be wasted.
