Watch DeMarcus Ware & Gary Kubiak Take Congratulatory Call From President Obama
So as you are undoubtedly aware, the Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 this past Sunday, beating Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers 24-10. They have been anything but shy in celebrating their victory over the last few days, and the media has been heavily covering the way both teams have handled themselves in the wake of the game.
That's why this chill as hell phone conversation between President Obama and head coach Gary Kubiak, along with linebacker DeMarcus Ware, is such a breath of fresh air.
From Obama calling Ware an old man and filling coach in on their relationship to his subtle reminder that this will be the last Super Bowl team to visit the White House, the phone call was super fun and breezy and so atypical of the way conversations like that normally go. The usual stiffness and awkwardness was gone. It honestly seemed like they were just a bunch of buddies, catching up. Plus, Ware and Kubiak are both such easy guys to root for; and let's be honest, it was great to see two Broncos who aren't Peyton Manning or Von Miller.
The only thing I will say is that I disagree that the Broncos defense is comparable to the '85 Bears. But if anyone deserves to hear something like that, it's Ware. After coming so close to rotting away in Dallas, it's poetic that he was able to move on and win a Super Bowl somewhere else.
Speaking of moving on...
It really does bums me out thinking about what that phone call will sound like at this time next year. And I know I'm not the only one. Just ask Gregg Popovich...
