Week 14 Rankings by Matchups: Don’t Trust Doug Martin
For many leagues, playoffs start this week, and if not, they're certainly due to kick off next week… unless, you're in a league that plays Week 17. If so, I'll forgive that as a one-time mistake and/or being new to Fantasy Football. Just don't let it happen again, or if you knew better, well do what you want, good luck with that madness.
Speaking of madness, are you ticked? Annoyed? Angry? Infuriated? I'm sure plenty are if you missed out on the playoffs, especially, if that miss was due to Jimmy Graham's goose egg. Of all Fantasy players, Jimmy stinkin' Graham?! Graham is one of two tight ends you pay the premium for so you don’t have to deal with this Travis Kelce-like nonsense.
Graham will bounce back, and he's far from the Muck Pile. But boy, oh boy, I know plenty of folks that would love to tell him to muck himself after last week… just not to his face.
Let's talk about that Muck Pile. You can find the list in last week's piece, but I have a few new additions, and as usual, I'd love to hear yours.
Ryan Tannehill is close, as he let so many owners down just as we all started trusting him, as a QB1 no less. You never muck Peyton Manning, but little bro Eli can certainly hit the pile after failing to take advantage of a Jaguars matchup. Matt Asiata? See ya, especially after having a great opportunity sans Jerick McKinnon versus the Panthers. Just watch. Now Asiata will have one of his patented three-touchdown days. Shane Vereen with another letdown. Ah, who am I kidding? Patriots running backs are automatically mucked once active on game day. Andre Ellington has provided some big games, especially in PPR leagues, but the injuries and disappointments are too much. His teammate John Brown joins the pile, as the Week 8 and 10 teases were just that… teases. Percy Harvin… well, everyone treated him like a Patriots running back in that he shouldn't near a lineup. Right? RIGHT?! Learn your lesson folks! Greg Olsen hasn't been the dominant tight end we wanted given the Panthers/Cam Newton's struggles. Andy Reid has his own place in Fantasy Hell for Travis Kelce owners, and Larry Donnell continues to show his hot start is a distant memory.
Saving some anger for next week, here are the Week 14 rankings by matchups, which are a great tool for building your DFS lineup - hint, hint. That's why you keep coming back for the rest of the season, as there is still money to be made!

You're mad, I know, I get it.
I mentioned Tannehill above, and I understand if most of you don't want to trust him again. However, with a Ravens matchup this week, Tannehill will rate high on the QB2 ladder and higher than his opponent, Joe Flacco. The Ravens and Dolphins are at opposite ends of the Week 14 rankings with the Ravens owning the fourth-most Defense Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed (DAFPA) - yes, the name was tweaked a bit for ease of pronunciation - while the Dolphins have the second-lowest DAFPA at 14.1. The Ravens DST actually has the second-most Fantasy Points per Game (FPPG) allowed in the past four weeks (21.6). At quarterback, Tannehill sits two spots higher than Flacco for the year, as his rushing ability carries him. Over the last four weeks, Tannehill is actually the eighth best quarterback with 15 more Fantasy Points (FP) than Flacco, who is 20th.
Other matchup-boosted QBs: Tony Romo, Cam Newton, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick (sigh)

Some owners, either in the playoffs or looking to get in with a win, might see Doug Martin and think, "Hey, there is some upside here. Maybe he's back." Stop it! NnnnooOO! That's wrong!
You really think one week with a touchdown changes anything? Okay, let's assume that Martin is even the best option on his own team. You still don't want him facing the Lions in Detroit. The Lions are the seventh-toughest team in DAFPA at 16.0. The only running back to hit double- digits against the Lions since Week 8 was LeGarrette Blount and his "what the heck?" game. Even though he shares carries and isn't the running back of old, I still want Frank Gore over Martin, especially with the Raiders topping the Week 14 rankings. Even with some other teams struggling mightily to stop the run over the last four weeks, the Raiders still check in at fourth (23.8 FPPG), behind only the Saints, Colts and Titans.
Other matchup-boosted RBs: Rashad Jennings, Eddie Lacy, Jonathan Stewart (IF DeAngelo Williams is out), Le'Veon Bell, Bishop Sankey, Arian Foster, Isaiah Crowell, Mark Ingram

Many owners threw Vincent Jackson at me for the Muck Pile last week. It's hard to argue against that. It's ironic too, because everyone who said VJax, followed it up with "Once I trust him, he lets me down," or "I finally gave up, and now VJax has a big game." Well, Jackson went out and laid another stinker after his big Week 12 game. Look for another one this week against the Lions. Like Martin, he can't be trusted. I would actually play Marques Colston over Jackson. Why not? The Panthers 24.6 DAFPA is the eighth-highest, and Colston has a touchdown in both games since Brandin Cooks was lost to injury. Basically, just skip the Bucs altogether against the Lions… aside from maybe Mike Evans.
Other matchup-boosted WRs: Mike Wallace and Jarvis Landry, Jaguars (good luck guessing who), Kelvin Benjamin, Stedman Bailey, Doug Baldwin, Packers, Lions, Saints

This one is all too easy when looking for similar tight ends with very different values due to the matchups. A touchdown saved Kyle Rudolph's week against the Panthers, but tight ends have been extremely touchdown reliant this year. On top of that, the Jets have allowed the most tight end touchdowns this year and the second-most DAFPA at 10.6.
Rudy is a solid play and low-end TE1, which is much more than you can say for Owen Daniels. When Dennis Pitta lost his season to an injury the potential for Daniels was high, but since Week 7, Daniels has just 11 FP in five games. Ugh! We already know the Ravens face the Dolphins, and just like with the other difficult matchups the Dolphins DST is the toughest in the Week 14 rankings. Only four tight ends have topped 5.8 FP versus the Dolphins, and all caught a touchdown pass. Plus, the highest scorer on the season is Rob Gronkowski, and even he only had 10.0 FP.
Other matchup-boosted TEs: Jason Witten, Jordan Cameron, Martellus Bennett, Delanie Walker, Antonio Gates
