Week 7 Injury Updates & Game Inactives
3:30 Update – Here are the inactives for the three scheduled afternoon games. Hope you are all enjoying a great afternoon of NFL game action and that your Fantasy teams are kickin’ butt and takin’ names.
Giants Inactives - RB Rashad Jennings, WR Corey Washington, T Adam Snyder, G James Brewer, G Brandon Mosley, DT Jay Bromley
Andre Williams again gets the start in what may prove to be a difficult game with the Dallas Cowboys, who always seem to play the Giants tough. Use Williams only if you have to, as the Giants may be playing from behind early in this one.
Cowboys Inactives - QB Dustin Vaughan, T Doug Free, T Donald Hawkins, DT Davon Coleman, LB Bruce Carter, DB Jakar Hamilton
Chargers Inactives - RB Donald Brown, RB Ryan Mathews, WR Dontrelle Inman, DT Ricardo Mathews, LB Jeremiah Attaochu, LB Manti Te'o, CB Jason Verrett
Mathews wasn’t expected back and Brown is still going through the concussion protocols. Branden Oliver gets the start against the Chiefs, who haven’t allowed a RB score this season, one of two teams that can boast that accomplishment (the Bills are the other). Start him if you must but don’t expect much.
Chiefs Inactives - QB Aaron Murray, WR Donnie Avery, T Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, C Eric Kush, DE Damion Square, SS Eric Berry, CB Chris Owens
Cardinals Inactives – RB Marion Grice, DE Calais Campbell , TE Troy Niklas, DT Bruce Gaston LB Desmond Bishop, LB Thomas Keiser, LB Glenn Carson
Raiders Inactives - QB Matt McGloin, WR Vincent Brown, CB Keith McGill, FB Marcel Reece, OL Khalif Barnes, G Tony Bergstrom & DE Justin Tuck
Titans Inactives - LB Akeem Ayers, RB Shonn Greene, QB Jake Locker, DE Ropati Pitoitua, CB Coty Sensabaugh, T Will Svitek, TE Taylor Thompson
Charlie Whitehurst starts and RB Bishop Sankey takes over as the primary back. However, neither player is recommended in a tough matchup with the Redskins.
Lions Inactives - QB Kellen Moore, RB Theo Riddick, WR Calvin Johnson, WR Eric Ebron, TE Joseph Fauria, T Garrett Reynolds, DE Larry Webster
We previously reported all of these inactives, which are not surprising. Matt Stafford will have fewer targets to throw to but should still manage a decent day against New Orleans. Golden Tate, Reggie Bush and Joique Bell should all have busy days.
Packers Inactives - QB Scott Tolzien, WR Jeff Janis, C Garth Gerhart, DE Datone Jones, LB Carl Bradford, CB Sam Shields, CB Demetri Goodson
Rams Inactives - QB Case Keenum, WR Austin Pettis, C Tim Barnes, DT Ethan Westbrooks, CB Trumaine Johnson, S Maurice Alexander, DB Brandon McGee
Pettis is a surprise addition to the injury report. This could point to a bit more action for Brian Quick this week, but since the Rams are playing against Seattle on the road, it’s difficult to recommend any Rams players for Fantasy play. The whole lot of them are best avoided if possible.
Colts Inactives - T Jamon Meredith, G Lance Louis, C/G Khaled Holmes, DT Kelcy Quarles, DT Arthur Jones, LB Victor Butler, CB Darius Butler
Seahawks Inactives - TE Luke Willson, TE Zach Miller, T Andrew McDonald, C Max Unger, DT Jordan Hill, LB Bobby Wagner, CB Byron Maxwell
The Seahawks will ground and pound the Rams today and you should look for a big day out of WR Jermaine Kearse, especially without the two main tight ends playing today.
Falcons Inactives - QB Sean Renfree, WR Harry Douglas, T Cameron Bradfield, G Harland Gunn, DT Cliff Matthews, LB Tyler Starr, CB Javier Arenas
Not a surprise to see Harry Douglas here. We could see more Antone Smith in this game as a result, but Matt Ryan should be able to connect with Julio Jones and Roddy White given Baltimore’s problems in the secondary.
Dolphins Inactives - WR Brandon Gibson, TE Harold Hoskins, T Jason Fox, G Shelley Smith, G Billy Turner, DT Anthony Johnson, S Jimmy Wilson
Albert Breer is reporting that Calvin Johnson is officially OUT for Week 7.
We’re also hearing that Jake Locker is officially OUT for Week 7. Charlie Whitehurst will start with Zach Mettenberg as the backup.
Bears Inactives - T Charles Leno, DE Trevor Scott, LB Lance Briggs, LB Jon Bostic, CB Terrance Mitchell, S Ahmad Dixon, S Chris Conte
Vikings Inactives - FB Zach Line, TE Kyle Rudolph, G David Yankey, G Austin Wentworth, DE Corey Wootton, LB Gerald Hodges, LB Brandon Watts
Saints Inactives - FB Erik Lorig, WR Joe Morgan, WR Nick Toon, NT Brandon Deaderick, LB Ramon Humber, LB Kyle Knox, DB Patrick Robinson
Redskins Inactives - QB Robert Griffin III, WR Aldrick Robinson, T Morgan Moses, G Spencer Long, DE Clifton Geathers, LB Perry Riley, Jr, CB Tracy Porter
Panthers Inactives - QB Joe Webb, RB DeAngelo Williams, RB Fozzy Whittaker, G Amini Silatolu, LB Chase Blackburn, CB Josh Norman, CB Bene Benwikere
Jonathan Stewart will carry the workload today as the featured back. He’s a desperation flex play given the good matchup against a porous Green Bay defense.
Bills Inactives – RB Bryce Brown, WR Marcus Easley, WR Marquise Goodwin, T Cyrus Kouandjio, LB Ty Powell, CB Ross Cockrell, S Kenny Ladler
Jaguars Inactives - RB Toby Gerhart, WR Mike Brown, WR Tavarres King, T Josh Wells, G Tyler Shatley, LB Jeremiah George, CB Jeremy Harris
Ravens Inactives – LB Arthur Brown, CB Chykle Brown, WR Marlon Brown, DE Chris Canty, T Eugene Monroe, G Keleche Osemele, TE Ryan Taylor
Browns Inactives - RB Glenn Winston, WR Rodney Smith, DL Ahtyba Rubin, DL Billy Winn, DL Phil Taylor, DB Pierre Desir, DB K'Waun Williams
Bengals Inactives - WR A.J. Green, T Tanner Hawkinson, DE Will Clarke, DT Brandon Thompson, LB Rey Maualuga, LB Emmanuel Lamur, CB Chris Lewis-Harris
10:25 Update - Adam Schefter is reporting that Marvin Lewis told a reporter that A.J. Green is definitely out for today's game. No surprise there. See analysis below for Mohamed Sanu.
Week 7 is shaping up as one of the easier weeks in terms of injuries to major starters and game time decisions. There are really only two players we’re monitoring this morning to see if they appear on the inactive list. Otherwise, the rest of the walking wounded are expected to play in some capacity or have already been declared out for this week’s game.
As we normally do every Sunday morning, we’ll be listing all the game inactives as they become available, with most of the teams making this information public shortly after 11:15 AM for the early afternoon games. If necessary, there will be an update for the late afternoon games prior to 4 PM. The most recent updates appear at the top. Let’s begin with what we know now.
Teams on a bye for Week 7: Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Players declared OUT for Week 7 already: Ryan Mathews, Rashad Jennings, Donald Brown, Robert Griffin III, Shonn Greene, Zach Miller, DeAngelo Williams, Fozzy Whittaker, Montee Ball, Harry Douglas, Toby Gerhart, Kyle Rudolph, Donnie Avery, Vincent Brown, Joseph Fauria
Players we’re watching this morning:
Calvin Johnson – Megatron is listed as questionable, which might lead you to think there is a possibility he will play. You can forget that notion; there is no way Johnson plays today. This will make things tough on Matt Stafford, who is also expected to be without TE Eric Ebron, who is nursing a hamstring injury. The Lions should have Reggie Bush back and Golden Tate has been a solid option in Megatron’s absence, so things are far from grim for Stafford, who still has plenty of weapons in his arsenal. The Saints defense can be beaten, especially the secondary, so I’m anticipating at least a serviceable game from Stafford and company today: but definitely no Johnson, so don’t bother crossing fingers or any of that sort of nonsense.
Kelvin Benjamin – The latest word is that Benjamin has been cleared to play, having gone through the league’s concussion protocols. Benjamin and the Panthers have a juicy matchup against the Green Bay Packers, whose pass defense is one of the worst in the NFL. So Benjamin owners will want to activate him in their lineups right away this morning. He practiced in full on Friday, so start him with confidence.
Jimmy Graham – He was expected to miss several weeks with a shoulder injury, but he was able to practice on a limited basis this week and the latest news is that he will play, but won’t start. The general expectation is that he’ll be on the field when the Saints are in the red zone or in goal line situations. This will limit Graham’s value in PPR leagues but he should get an opportunity to score. The Lions have allowed three TDs to opposing tight ends through six games.
A.J. Green – He’s listed as doubtful with a turf toe problem and there is virtually no chance he’ll play. Mohamed Sanu will again be the go-to receiver for Andy Dalton, but keep in mind that the Bengals are expected to try and run the ball to keep Andrew Luck off the field. Still, Sanu is a solid WR2 with WR1 upside in a matchup that could be a shootout.
Jake Locker – His hand injury has improved and he did take some first team snaps in limited practice this week. However, Charlie Whitehurst is expected to start this game. If Locker were to start, you might uptick the Titans’ WR corps a bit in the rankings but not much. Start them if you have to.
