What Happened Last Night: Stupid Rain Messed With Everything
Missed last night's sports action? Well, then you're not too different from those of us who did watch, because bad weather did everything it could to spoil the night's big LCS matchups. It only succeeded in one of the two games, but it made everyone wait around a nice long while for the game that did finish. Here's how it went down:
Cardinals wait it out, take the lead.
It took a while for the rain to show up in St. Louis, but - literally, in this case - when it rained, it poured. The game was delayed with the Cardinals leading 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, and it stayed that way for 3 1/2 hours. The delay wound up being longer than the game itself, but for the Cardinals, it was worth it - they walked away with a 3-1 win, and 2-1 lead in the series.
A big hurdle for the Cards, though: Carlos Beltran had to leave the game with a strained knee and is now day-to-day. Then again, his replacement, Matt Carpenter, hit a two-run homer that proved to be the difference in the game, so maybe this is just one more seemingly-difficult obstacle with which the Cardinals will easily dispose.
Yankees and Tigers never get started.
Well, look on the bright side, Yankee fans: your team didn't get eliminated last night. Of course, on the not-so-bright side, it's because they didn't play: Game 4 of the ALCS, scheduled for an 8 p.m. Eastern start, never got off the ground due to that same rain that rumbled through St. Louis. "Well," you might think, "too bad about the game, but the Midwest sure needs rain." Which is all well and good - except the game was called off before any rain even fell.
In everyone's defense, though, rain did eventually come down. And good news: it's still raining in Detroit, though the forecast for tonight is mostly cloudy, with only a 10 percent chance of more rain. So tonight might be your night to nervously freak out in a good way (if you're a Tigers fan) or bad way (Yankees fan). Unbearable tension - that's playoff baseball.

Preseason basketball, so you don't have to.
The Suns beat the Mavs. Dirk's still not playing. The Rockets beat the Grizzlies - Jeremy Lin struggled shooting but had 12 assists and only two turnovers, which is a good sign. Blazers over Nuggets. Clippers over Jazz. Raptors over Wizards. Sixers over Cavs. Warriors over Kings. Jeez, this is unbearably boring even for the preseason.
Reminder: Niners-Seahawks tonight.
Think the Niners and Jim Harbaugh will come out angry after that beating from the Giants. Yes. Yes, they will be angry. And if there's anyone Jim Harbaugh likes to take his anger out on, it's Pete Carroll. You probably want to tune in to this one.
