What If Geno Smith Is QB Of Jets?
When you think of fantasy production from the New York Jets last year, who pops into your mind? Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and Chris Ivory right? Well now that Chris Ivory is on the Jaguars, the proven Matt Forte comes to fill that role in the offense. However, the biggest question mark of how well this team will play this year comes from the quarterback position. Will they re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick or will Geno Smith be their starting QB?
Geno Smith Renders Marshall and Decker Useless
Whether or not Ryan Fitzpatrick returns to Gang Green will determine not only the success of this football team, but also the fantasy success of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.
If Fitzpatrick returns, Brandon Marshall is arguably a first round talent being drafted as the 10-12th wide receiver taken off the board. That’s how deep this wide receiver position is this year in fantasy. Take a look at Marshall’s numbers with Fitzpatrick: 109 receptions, 1,502 rec. yards, 14 touchdowns. This just goes to show how much of an impact Fitzpatrick has on Marshall. If Fitz does not sign with the Jets and Geno Smith is their starting quarterback, Marshall’s draft stock will plummet.
Taking a look at Eric Decker, the word underrated can’t be used enough. Being the second receiver in this offense allowed him to find openings and rack up 80 receptions, 1,052 yards receiving, and 12 touchdowns. Right now he is the 25th wide receiver being taken off draft boards, which is just crazy considering his production from last season. If you can get him around the 5th or 6th round that would be an absolute steal.
Finally, Matt Forte should bring this offense more firepower than it had last season. With his ability to catch the ball in the open field, he gives defenses nightmares because of his versatility. Luckily for fantasy owners, he is being taken as the 15th running back and a very dependable option, especially in PPR leagues. Last year he had 44 receptions to go along with nearly 900 rushing yards, easily eclipsing 1,200 yards of total offense. Forte may be the only Jets weapon that could still excel with Geno Smith behind center.
