Tim Tebow is 25, Christian, and backup quarterback for the New York Jets. Like most backup quarterback, he barely plays. Periodically, we like to update you on his brief forays into the spotlight, via a segment we call “Your Breathless Tim Tebow Update.”
Today's update has apparently been a long-time coming, as Tebow has officially trademarked "Tebowing." Tebow filed the paperwork to own the term back in April and was finally awarded the rights today, some six months later.
But don't worry, Tebow is still in a good Christian. He doesn't want to make money off of the phrase; he just wants to make sure that if it's used, it's used in reference to prayer (its original intent) instead of anything cheap.
“I know it was something that was cool for me in the past, but it’s not something I do as ‘Tebowing,’” Tebow said. “It’s something I do that’s prayer for me and then it got hyped up as Tebowing. So I think (it’s) just to control how it’s used as well. Make sure it’s used in the right way.”
Tebow doesn't plan to make any money off of Tebowing, but if he does, all proceeds will go to the Tim Tebow Foundation, which is nice.
