Bruins/Habs Release Winter Classic Jerseys
The 2016 NHL Winter Classic is just over two months away, but the hype has already begun for the event at Gillette Stadium. The 2016 edition will feature bitter rivals Montreal and Boston facing off on the New England Patriots' home turf, so surely old acquaintance won't be forget.
In advance of the event, the two teams have released the jerseys they'll wear for the game. Let's take a look...
We start off with the home team, as the Bruins will rock these beauties on New Year's Day. While the jersey itself is a "fauxback"...meaning it's made to look like a retro jersey but never actually worn by the team in the past (the Rangers and Red Wings, among others, have also worn jerseys specially made for the event), the chest logo is taken from the Bruins' 1930's days, and combines with Boston's current home color of black. This contrasts with look the Bruins wore when they hosted the 2010 Winter Classic, when they wore an all yellow throwback.
The Habs will be making their first ever appearance in the Winter Classic, though they did appear twice in the all-Canadian Heritage Classic in 2004 and 2011. They unveiled this look yesterday, and once again, they hit the spot. This is a take on the white jerseys the Canadiens have worn throughout their history, particularly the one worn from 1944-47. However, there are a few subtle changes. A white Canadiens is worn on the chest, a rare departure from the famous red C. Furthermore, a light shade of blue is used on the stripes. The Habs also added a simple yet snazzy touch by their globe logo from the 1920's has been added to the sleeves. While some fans may find the design too simple, let's keep in mind that Habs throwbacks can be much worse.
