The 2024 Olympics are a long way off, but God can see the possibilities. And thus so can Pope Francis, who says that he wants the Vatican to play host to the archery and soccer events if Rome wins its bid to stage those Games.
Where would the archery be held? In the Vatican Gardens, of course. That's according to a report (below) quoting a Cardinal saying that he's sure the Pope would approve it. Soccer would also be played nearby, although I hope not too near.
Of course all of these plans come during a time when Rome is in the midst of one of its worst corruption scandals in years. And maybe that's the point -- showing the world that His Most Holy Father is involved could spray some perfume on an otherwise stinky situation.
Because a Pope has never been involved in any kind of corruption or scandal.
