Mike Francesa Really Really Confused About The Red Bulls and NYCFC
Mike Francesa likes what he likes. Soccer is just not one of those things. Today on his show, the Pope had a 20 second live read to give away tickets to a Red Bulls/NYFC game. And after finishing off the read, we are convinced that Mike is more confused than he was than before he started.
Let's start at the beginning. The read is led off highlighting the fact that David Villa plays for the Red Bulls. The first issue is that Mike has no idea how to pronounce David Villa's name. In fact he gets both the first name (pronounced Dah-Vid, not Day-Vid) and the last name (Vee-Ya, not Vil-La) incorrect. Francesa has never been known to pronounce things correctly, but this is a butchering of epic proportions. Then again, Francesa admits he just has no idea at all who Villa is.
When wrapping up the read, Mike talks about how the Fan have Red Bull tickets to give away. Except, he's actually giving away NYCFC tickets. NYFC happen to be playing the Red Bulls in the game they were advertising. So when Mike tried to correct himself he needed to know what NYFC's nickname was. Was it like Chargers? Maybe the Suns? It couldn't possibly just be the New York City Football Club.
Finally, Mike talks about how cute that little Red Bulls stadium is. Located in Harrison, NJ, Red Bull Arena holds over 25,000 people in it. Does that really make it a cute little stadium? Don't worry, Mike knew that NYFC plays at Yankee Stadium. OBVIOUSLY!
