Peruvian Defender Becomes A Striker
At a soccer game in Peru, Joao Contreras Fuentes, a 21-year-old defender for Sport Aguila, was struck by lightning during a match against Fuerza Minera. The video below looks like it uses the special effects from a 1910 film, but watch as one minute Joao and a linesman are standing up, and the next they fall and a puff of smoke appears.
Early reports were that Joao had died. Like Mark Twain (Google him), reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated, and he miraculously came back to life. Of course, I wouldn't be making light of this if the men had actually died, and I hope that their recovery from their burns is quick. But hell, reanimation is no mean feat, so well done you, Joao.
My favorite part of the video is the player who starts on the right side of the field, points to what happens, and then hauls ass off the field. I don't speak Spanish, but I imagine he said something to the effect of "Did you see that? That over there? That thing way over there now. Screw this. I'm outie!"
Something SCOTT STERLING would never do:
(love that video!)
