Ref Pulls Out Handgun During Soccer Match
Brazil: it's paradise, except when it's not!
That'd be a pretty weak vacation pitch by the Brazilian tourism board, sure, but it's true. There are more than 110 gun-related murders a day in South America's most populous country, which translates to five an hour and over 40,000 a year. You'd think that'd be enough to give Brazil a reputation for being one of the most violent developed countries on Earth, but they love kicking balls around so damn much it's hard for anyone to get past the whole soccer fixation.
This amateur referee managed to seamlessly blend two of his country's favorite pastimes in one unnecessarily angry outburst. He pulled out a handgun from his waistband and started waving it around after a player allegedly attack him with non-lethal weapons (read: hands and feet). Weirder still, this dude is also cop. And while we'd normally call something like this "insane," it's Brazil, afteral -- the place where a referee once stabbed a player to death, and was promptly cut into quarters by a vengeful mob of fans.
Good times, you guys.
