Sepp Blatter Not Amused When Comedian Showers Him With Fake Money At Press Conference
Simon Brodkin is a well known comedian/prankster from the UK whose previous hits include trying to blend in with the England National soccer team as they boarded a plane for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, interrupting a Kanye West concert by rushing the stage, and attempting to warm up with Manchester City players prior to a game with Everton in 2013. His stage name on British TV is Lee Evans, and he's apparently not fond of Sepp Blatter.
It was Blatter's first press conference since announcing he was stepping down as President of FIFA, and Brodkin was up to his old tricks. He walked up to the podium and after a short statement ("This is for North Korea 2026"), made it rain on Blatter with fake cash just before security led him away.
Blatter stormed off. announcing that "We have to clean before I can continue." The irony was lost on Blatter but notable among the assembled press.
But his statement upon returning was possibly the most bizarre feature of the day. Blatter: "I just called my late mother and she said don’t worry, it's lack of education.” ??.
For the record, it's not lack of education: Brodkin, 38, was a medical doctor before he moved into comedy.
The press conference was to announce changes within FIFA. The election to choose Blatter's successor will come in February of 2016, they said.
Brodkin later tweeted about the incident as his other alter-ego, Jason Bent:
