Speaking Of Steph Curry: Lionel Messi Is Also Still A Freak Of Nature
Long before Steph Curry began hitting 32-foot three-pointers like they're free throws, Lionel Messi was holding it down as the superstar athlete with the most breathtaking and historically unparalleled skill set on the planet. And it's obvious after you watch his latest stunner that Messi is not quite ready or willing to be de-throned as the king of jaw-dropping highlights.
With the match against Sevilla tied up at 1-1, Messi stepped up to take the free kick for Barcelona from just outside the left corner of the box. Suffice it to say, he scored; and the poor Sevilla goalie never even had a chance.
That's so glorious it almost hurts. To the uninformed soccer viewer, that may seem like luck. But those who have watched enough Barcelona soccer over the last decade know that there is almost zero luck when it comes to Messi hitting shots like that. The ball goes where Messi wants it; give or take an inch. If he called his shot 100 times, he'd hit 99 of them perfectly.
If there were a way to scientifically generate the soccer equivalent of Steph Curry's game-winning shot against the Thunder on Saturday night, that free kick goal by Messi would be the exact result.
Or maybe Steph's shot is the basketball version of Messi's free kicks. Mull that one over...
