Mario Balotelli had some big, weird shoes to fill when he replaced Luis Suarez at Liverpool. So far, he fallen very short of the standard set by his bitey predecessor, scoring only two goals in 15 games this season.
The weird part, though, he seems to have that covered.
Balotelli posted (then quickly deleted) an image of Nintendo’s Super Mario character with a series of stereotypical racial descriptions that manage to offend a number of ethnicities/races/nationalities/religions. “Don’t be racist!” the image says rather ironically. You can judge for yourself if this crossed a line, but it’s definitely not something a professional athlete can get away with posting on Instagram.

Not surprisingly, the FA isn’t having it.
[Reuters] Mario Balotelli has been fined 25,000 pounds, suspended for one match with immediate effect, subject to appeal, and warned as to his future conduct after he admitted breaching FA rules in relation to social media.
