The Time Donald Trump Tried To Get John McEnroe To Play Serena Williams
Tennis is one of the few sports that mitigates most of the physical discrepancy between the sexes, so it's no wonder that, A) Men play women all the time, and, B) Older men who used to be good often lose to younger women currently at the top of their game. That simply doesn't happen in basketball, or even golf. What someone like four-time U.S. Open champ John McEnroe lacks in speed and strength at 56, a 33-year-old Serena Williams has bunches.
Apparently they almost played (and he thinks he could still beat her if they ever do.)
"Fifteen years ago, Donald Trump...made an offer," John McEnroe told Jimmy Kimmel last night. "Which I felt like it was not enough."
"I think he was humoring the two of us," McEnroe said, adding that Serena would have way more to lose in an actual tennis match against someone who hasn't played professionally since 1992.
"God forbid I lose to a woman," McEnroe said sarcastically. "I wouldn't be allowed in any men's locker room for the next 50 years."
