Yes, A San Jose, CA, City Councilman Took The Oath Of Office While Holding A Captain America Shield
Although I think that this is awesome, it's probably not going to help an Jose's quest for legitimacy. San Jose is California's third-largest city, at 1,026,908 population with more people than Sacramento and Oakland combined. But the only pro team to agree to be there is the NHL's Sharks, and even neighboring Santa Clara got the 49ers.
When will San Jose get some respect? Probably not today. San Jose Mercury News:
San Jose Councilman Lan Diep, a legal aid attorney, donned a Captain America shield while taking his oath of office Tuesday, raising a few eyebrows, setting off a social media storm and garnering some chuckles.
Diep, a self-professed comics nerd, said Captain America is the “embodiment of America’s ideals.
“These are the same ideals I hope to live up to as a representative of San Jose,” Diep said. “Plus, I had this really cool shield I wanted to show off.”
So would you guess that Diep is a Republican or a Democrat? ... Nope.
Diep, 32, was sworn into office Tuesday, a week after his colleagues. Diep, a Republican, was in Chicago watching President Barack Obama‘s farewell address last week.
Diep said the shield is a limited edition movie-prop replica from Captain America: The First Avenger, of which only 1,000 were made.
UPDATE: Paul Gullixson It's clearly to protect him from the media. Trump has arm bracelets and a magic rope.
