You Guys, Jason Street Is Going To Play Coach Taylor In A ‘Friday Night Lights’ Musical
It's hard to imagine Coach Taylor's epic monologues from Friday Night Lights being delivered with any more emotion or conviction; but what if they were SONGS?!
Well we now know that we will be blessed with the answer to that question, because the hit 2000's football drama is now being turned into a musical. Not only that, but the beloved Jason Street (or technically the actor who played Street, Scott Porter) will star as Coach Eric Taylor.
Oh and he announced it with this perfectly executed Dubsmash:
As if FNL didn't already do a good enough job at bringing up all the feelings that could ever be felt, Jason Street has to go and do that.
According to Variety, The Unauthorized ‘Friday Night Lights’ Musical will fittingly come to us from the creators of the musical versions of The O.C. and Cruel Intentions. And as it turns out, Porter is a perfect fit for the role of Coach Taylor (played by Kyle Chandler in the TV show) for more than one reason. He got his start in the Off Broadway production "Altar Boyz."
There are still many details to be worked out, but according to co-creator Lindsey Rosin, she and her producing partner Jordan Ross recently recieved legal approval from NBC Universal to make the musical; prompting their announcement.
Rosin also says that right now it's looking like the musical will have just a one-night or one-weekend run in Los Angeles; at least initially.
Also, I don't really care what they do with the rest of the cast as long as they nail the part of Landry. He's easily one of the most underrated television characters of all-time. Don't blow this, Rosin.
