FINDING BARGAINS TO COMPLEMENT CLAYTON KERSHAW
You should not hesitate to build around some top-level pitching on Friday night. You will certainly have many thoughts and maybe even serious convictions about exploiting matchups against the Marlins and Astros, but do not try to go with the simple plays. John Lannan seems like a very attractive option at first with a $5,800 price on DraftKings, but current Miami active hitters have a combined .306 batting average against him. Tommy Hanson ($9,500) faces Houston, but Hanson is simply too unreliable and the Astros have showed some recent signs of offensive life.
Yu Darvish seems like an ideal start, even at 12,200, when you consider current Mariners are hitting .160 against him. But Darvish will be trying to work through a blister, and you cannot spend that kind of Daily Fantasy cash on a player who is even a remote risk. So simply lock in Clayton Kershaw at 12,500 and work around him with your budget. Current Arizona hitters have a .202 average with no home runs against the Dodgers ace. Jonathon Niese (9,000) is a solid choice at Minnesota, he has started off well. If you insist on going cheaper, Jose Quintana (6,600) should bounce back against the Indians, who are hitting a combined .214 against him.
As we look for bargains to use with Kershaw and Niese, a pair of Mets can be good, and less pricey options tonight against Minnesota’s Vance Worley. Daniel Murphy (4,000) is 10-15 with a double and triple against Worley. Lucas Duda (3,600) has a home run among his five hits against Worley in 10 at-bats. New York’s more tenured players saw a healthy amount of Worley when he was with the Phillies.
The Orioles face CC Sabathia, and J.J. Hardy (3,400) is 6-14 with two doubles and a homer against the New York ace. Nolan Reimold (4,000) is 8-for-24 with two doubles and a homer against Sabathia. Toronto catcher J.P. Arencibia (3,200) is 3-for-5 with a double against Luis Mendoza. Adam Lind (3,500) is 3-for-8 with two doubles against the Royals starter.
Adam Dunn (3,800) is a terrific start against Justin Masterson. Kyle Seager (4,000) actually hits Darvish well, with four hits in 10 at-bats, including two doubles. David Murphy (4,000) has hit Hisashi Iwakuma quite well, with five hits, including two doubles, in nine at-bats. Yet the very best bargain of the day may be Detroit catcher Alex Avila (3,300), who has two homers among his four hits in five at-bats against Bartolo Colon.
