When you take a look at the pitching options and matchups for Thursday, there are really no impressive starters or matchups to exploit, for the most part. It does not seem too appealing to use the likes of Phil Hughes or Zach McAllister, and you can’t like Dan Haren against the White Sox,much, either. Felix Hernandez faces a potent Rangers lineup and he is way too pricey ($11,800 on DraftKings).
So my recommendation, especially on DraftKings, is to go with Zack Greinke, who comes at a hefty $10,600, but he is well worth it against a very vulnerable San Diego lineup. Current active Padres hitters are batting a combined .234 against Greinke. You should simply build your lineup around Greinke, as you may be able to find more plentiful hitting choices that you like.
Check the lineups in our feed on the daily homepage, and you can put some quality Dodger bargains around Greinke. If Jerry Hairston Jr. ($3,100 on DraftKings) starts, he is 2-for-3 with two doubles against Jason Marquis. Catcher A.J. Ellis ($3,200) is 2 for 6 with a double against Marquis.
Jason Vargas is at 6,700 today and should be considered along with Greinke where you need two starters. Current Oakland hitters are batting a combined .245 against him. Coco Crisp (4,900), though, is the one guy that can really terrorize Vargas. Crisp is off to a hot start this year and is 12 for 33 with two doubles and a homer against the Angels starter.
Franklin Gutierrez (3,500) and Vernon Wells (3,600) are performing well and can fit in your lineups nicely if you need a discounted outfielder or two. Wells may see his game rained out, though. Jeff Keppinger is at 4,000 and is 8 for 16 with a double and a homer against Dan Haren. If Rajai Davis is in the Toronto lineup, he is 11 for 26 with two doubles against Doug Fister.
