Picking starting pitchers for the early Monday games is not easy, especially on DraftKings. But a closer examination of the batter-pitcher matchups reveals Jamie Garcia ($8,900) should anchor your staff. If you are looking for a second starter, consider Edwin Jackson (8,700), who faces a depleted Brewers lineup that will be without Aramis Ramirez (.333 against Jackson). Ryan Braun has hit at a .500 clip against Jackson so far, and if he is out as well, you have to like the Cubs starter even more. Ervin Santana is at 7,600 and has a favorable new home park and can get you some strikeouts, but he is always a risk no matter who he faces.
Will Middlebrooks (4,100) and Dustin Pedroia (4,800) have both fared rather well against Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen. Middlebrooks, the big Sunday HR hero, is 3-for-6 with a double against Chen. Pedroia has two extra-base hits against Chen in three at-bats. Yadier Molina (4,200) js a top catcher play against Mat Latos, as he has 7 hits in 17 at-bats against the Cincinnati starter, including a pair of doubles.
A pair of Orioles make good day game bargains. J.J. Hardy (3,400) homered on Sunday and is 6-for-13 lifetime against Clay Buchholz with two home runs. Manny Machado (3,200) has just two official at-bats against Buchholz, but he has already doubled off him and drew a walk. Vernon Wells (3,600) has a similar small, but promising sample size against Ubaldo Jimenez. Justin Morneau (3,800) is a great value play against Ervin Santana, as he is 6-for-18 with three home runs and nine RBI against the Royals starter.
