PREGAME TIP SHEET: TAKE A CHANCE ON SOME CUBS
As the evening games approach, and most of the lineups roll in, it’s apparent which non-marquee players and bargains you can use. Not all of the best lower-priced catchers are in lineups tonight, and you will miss out on exploiting some good batter vs. pitcher histories on Monday.
Tyler Flowers ($3,900 on DraftKings) is 2 for 4 against Masterson, but the White Sox will start Hector Gimenez. Kelly Shoppach (3,900) has doubled and homered in his two at-bats against Brad Peacock, but Jesus Montero is starting over him. Maybe the Astros are simply the opponent Montero needs to face to get himself going.
Chris Iannetta (3,400) is 3 for 7 with a home run against Derek Holland and should be the bargain catcher you are looking for. There is also some money to be saved by exploiting some good past numbers for a few Cubs against Mike Leake. Chicago has not been much of a Fantasy source so far, but you can use two to three of their guys with some potential success.
Luis Valbuena (3,200) is 2 for 5 with a double against Mike Leake. Darwin Barney (3,500) is 7 for 18 with two doubles against Leake. Both are confirmed to be in Monday’s lineup. Nate Schierholz (4,900) is 3 for 7 with a double against Leake. He is obviously more pricey, but he has been playing well and is worth the Fantasy “cash.”
Here are some other notables to consider as the first pitches loom:
Brennan Boesch (3,700) is 2 for 3 against Matt Moore and is in the Yankees lineup.
Conor Gillaspie (4,200) is 2 for 3 with a double against Justin Masterson.
Ben Revere (3,900) is 3 for 5 against A.J. Burnett, and he is hitting seventh tonight. Seeing Burnett could trigger the spurt Revere needs to get back atop the lineup soon.
Todd Frazier (4,600) is 4 for 5 with a home run against Travis Wood. He has the pop to make him worth the price.
Michael Cuddyer (5,800) is 2 for 2 with a home run against Mike Minor. That’s just too much to spend for such a small sample size for me.
Will Venable (4,000) is 4 for 8 with two doubles against Kyle Lohse. Make sure you check his status on our lineups page soon.
Andres Torres is (3,600) 4 for 6 with a double and triple against Wade Miley. He has not been useful at all to this point, but can save you some quality “dollars” tonight.
