SAVE ON PITCHING, USE MINNESOTA BARGAINS ON SUNDAY
Sunday is a day when you can take the gamble of going cheap on pitching. Sure, it’s very tempting to go with Justin Verlander against the Yankees, but that will cripple the rest of your lineup, especially on DraftKings, where he is priced at $12,400.
It’s already widely known that you should exploit any matchup against the Astros, so I am going with Brett Anderson at 8,200. I will also take advantage of the fact that the Mets do not have a consistent lineup and have never seen Marlins rookie Jose Fernandez, who is bottom-priced at $5,000. The Mets always seem to struggle against guys they have not seen much of before, and I just cannot resist the price tag.
While I usually emphasize building around strong, proven pitching, nothing in Fantasy Sports is ever absolute and I can frontload my lineup with big bats on Sunday by using Anderson and Fernandez. Miguel Cabrera (5,600) is 10-for-26 with two homers and 12 RBI against CC Sabathia. Carlos Gonzalez (5,700) is 5-for-12 against Edinson Volquez. You can also try to fit in Evan Longoria if you prefer. He is at 4,700 and is 7-for-21 with 6 RBI against Justin Masterson.
You have to like some Twins today when searching for other bargain plays. Justin Morneau (3,800) is 3-for-6 against Jason Hammel, with all three hits being doubles. Jamey Carroll (3,500) is 6-for-15 against Hammel with four walks. Josh Willingham is 5-for-12 against Hammel with a home run although he is no cheapie at 4,500.
Here are some other notable bargain plays for Sunday, of course check our lineup feed to make sure these guys are starting today.
J.P. Arencibia (3,200) – Prime discount of the day. He is raking and has homered twice off Jon Lester before.
Ben Revere (3,100) – Two hits in seven at-bats against James Shields with a steal
Jean Segura (3,300) – Has asserted himself well at the plate in the first week.
Franklin Gutierrez (3,500) – Has started off very well and the price is right.
Brett Gardner (3,700) – Sees Verlander well, three hits in eight at-bats with three walks.
Jason Kubel (3,900) – 4-for-10 against Yovani Gallardo with a HR.
