SEVERAL QUALITY PITCHING CHOICES AVAILABLE
There are quite a few quality pitching selections for Friday’s games, and it is just a matter of trimming the field to who you really like. If you are willing to spend the big bucks on a site like DraftKings, then Yu Darvish is a prime choice against Seattle. The current Mariners on the roster are hitting .156 against him, with 33 strikeouts in 96 at-bats. But at $12,700, Darvish is obviously a heavy drain on your overall salary.
I prefer to opt for Alex Cobb at $8,500, as current Oakland hitters are batting a combined .146 against the Tampa Bay starter. In the same game, at the same price, current Tampa Bay hitters are batting a combined .241 against Brett Anderson with only one extra-base hit. I like Jake Peavy (9,900) even better than Anderson, as the Twins are hitting .229 against him. Pittsburgh is also hitting .197 against veteran Atlanta hurler Tim Hudson. Ultimately, I would prefer Jamie Garcia (9,300) to pair with Cobb tonight. Hudson will likely be my next man up if I ultimately decide to save more money on pitching. Mat Latos (10,300) looks oh-so enticing against Miami, but I would try to keep my pitching prices below 10,000 if I can considering the solid alternatives at lower rates.
There are not a great many appealing bargain options out there tonight, but here are a few. Make sure you check our lineups page for all the official batting orders approximately two hours prior to game times.
Rajai Davis (4,200) is 7 for 12 with a home run against Andy Pettitte. He is playing quite well this week and looks like a must-start.
Eduardo Nunez (4,200) has 5 hits in 12 at-bats against Brandon Morrow.
Geovany Soto (4,000) is 4 for 6 with a double and a home run against Joe Saunders. You just have to hope he gets slotted into the lineup to exploit the matchup.
Chris Parmalee (3,900) is 4 for 8 against Jake Peavy. Trevor Plouffe (3,700) is 5 for 17 with three doubles against Peavy.
Rick Ankiel (3,200) has a double and triple among his three hits in seven at-bats against Brett Myers.
Austin Jackson (4,000) and Torii Hunter (3,900) both have two hits in three at-bats against Tommy Hanson.
John Mayberry Jr. (3,900) is 4 for 9 with two doubles against Jaime Garcia. Charlie Manuel often plays matchups with Mayberry, so you may see him in tonight’s lineup.
Garrett Jones (4,200) is 5 for 11 with two doubles against Tim Hudson.
Chris Johnson (3,700) is 2 for 5 against Wandy Rodriguez, and he is seemingly in a good groove, so get him in there.
Here are some other notable hitting matchups for Friday:
Andre Ethier (4,700) is 8 for 23 with a double and a home run against Jason Hammel. Sorry, I just can’t spend that kind of money on Andre Ethier.
Alex Gordon (5,700) has 3 hits in 4 at-bats against Clay Buchholz, including a home run. He’s pricey, but if you use a Hudson and some bargains, you may be able to use him.
Kyle Seager (5,100) is 5 for 13 with three doubles and seven RBI against Yu Darvish. He doubled against Darvish on April 12. I would recommend spending here.
Norichika Aoki (5,000) is 4 for 6 with a double and triple against Jeff Samardzija.
Starlin Castro (4,500) is 5 for 12 with a double, triple and stolen base against Marco Estrada. I am locking him in.
Wilin Rosario (4,900) is 3 for 7 with two doubles against Ian Kennedy. It’s always good to have a safe play at catcher if you can.
