UFC Fighter Qualifies for Championship Fight by Cutting Weight in 2 Minutes
It was an incredible feat that rightfully raised a lot of questions from reporters.
?DC #1 - 206.2lbs ⏱2 minutes pass.. ?DC #2 - 205.0lbs ?AJ - 203.8lbs ❓Why was AJ so late if on weight?❓Were the scales touched after DC#1?— Jim Edwards (@MMA_Jim) April 7, 2017
Here's NYSAC executive director Tony Giardina explaining why Cormier was allowed to weigh in twice: pic.twitter.com/vxzpcnrT9y — Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) April 7, 2017Championship fight or not, the amount of weight Cromier supposedly cut is glaringly disproportionate to the two-minute window he had to drop the pounds. Another theory swirling on Twitter captured the fighter pulling down the towel during his second attempt.
Whether or not Cromier legitimately cut that weight will remain a mystery. But make no mistake, if he wins the UFC-205 championship bout against Anthony Johnson this will be a distinct blemish on the title.
Pressing down on the towel to offset a little weight is an old trick. I'm not real outraged by this, but let's not kid ourselves.— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) April 7, 2017
