Here’s A Basebrawl That Got Two Entire Teams Thrown Out Of A Tournament
For a sequence of events that sent Cherryville, N.C.'s American Legion baseball team home from an American Legion baseball tournament over the weekend, it actually began quite well. Cherryville scored two runs to extend its lead to 4-0 in the third inning, putting itself in pole position to advance in the Southeast Regional. But then, their opponent from Douglasville, Ga. didn't like how they acted while scoring those two runs...so the Douglasville catcher threw the ball at a Cherryville player. And then (note: fighting is essentially over by the minute mark)...
A crazy enough brawl that both teams were gone from the tournament and a police report was filed, though no one was charged. If we're being totally honest, though...for a fight that got not one, but both teams kicked out of the entire tournament, we expected a bit more of a sustained fight. Sure, players on both sides undoubtedly lost their minds, as a youth tournament, there's a lesser tolerance for misbehavior, and drastic action needed to be taken, but it was over pretty quickly. Which, come to think of it, is a good thing, so we should probably stop sounding disappointed.
