Smart Lad: Andy Murray Bows To Prince William And Kate Middleton After Winning At Wimbledon
The pressure that the British press puts on Andy Murray each summer to win a Wimbledon has, at times, been compared to the pressure that the American press puts on LeBron James to win an NBA championship.
Murray, who is routinely the United Kingdom's best hope to win their most important tennis tournament (something that hasn't happened since 1937) is certainly in the thick of it right now. Although he's a Scot, the British tend to claim members of the territories under their flag when they do something noteworthy in golf or tennis (Soccer? Not so much). So as he gets closer to a Wimbledon final, the pressure mounts.
So far, Murray hasn't disappointed. He dispatched Richard Gasquet in straight sets on Monday, and he did it in front of the Prince and the Duchess, no less. Yes, Prince William and Kate Middleton were on hand to watch Murray defeat Gasquet. We'll leave the squealy details about Kate's dress alone for now, but, suffice it to say, this little gesture should award Murray a little breathing room from the British tabs.
