Last March the Cardinals traded a second-round pick as well as Jonathan Cooper to the New England Patriots in exchange for Jones after Bill Belichick pulled off one of his blockbuster trades. Bruce Arians was not going to let him stick around for just one season and it has been reported for a while they were going to franchise tag him if a deal was not made.
Jones is a one-time pro bowler and won Super Bowl XLIX with the Patriots back in 2015. He has been an above average player since 2012 and was a great addition to the Cardinals defense last year finishing the season off with 49 tackles and 11 sacks.
The Arizona Cardinals will be paying Jones $14.6 million fully guaranteed for the 2017 season if he agrees to play under the tag. The news of the franchise tag appeared just a few minutes after the Cardinals twitter page wished Jones a Happy Birthday. Name a better birthday present than $14 million.
