Arsenal-Southampton Game Produced The Two Best Goals Of The Year In 90 Minutes
It's Tuesday, and if you're as American and ethnocentric as we are, you might be wondering why clubs teams are playing each other. Well, it's because the FA League Cup, that's why. In the 13th minute, Arsenal's Chilean addition Alexis Sanchez casually nailed a Ronaldinho-esque bent free kick from 10 yards outside the box.
When someone converts a set piece like this, it usually means that'll be the goal of the match. It wasn't.
Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne, jealous of the attention Sanchez was already receiving no doubt, settled a deflection off a corner kick, took one step, and somehow squeezed a soccer ball between the head of Arsenal backup keeper David Ospina and the crossbar from roughly 30 yards out.
ADVANTAGE: Clyne (it ended up being the game winner). Southampton currently sits at second in the EPL standings, one point above Arsenal.
