Australian Cricketer Phil Hughes Dies From Head Injury Suffered Tuesday
Well, hell. This is horrible news.
Australian cricket star Phil Hughes, who suffered a head injury on Tuesday while playing a test match at Sydney Cricket Ground, as died.

Head injuries in cricket are more common than one might think, but there have only been a handful of them since the 1970s, and there hasn't been a death in the sport related to a head injury since 1998 (Bangladesh's Raman Lamba).
Still, the sport is more life-threatening than baseball -- there have been six recorded deaths in cricket related to head injuries since 1958. The sport has done much in recent years to reduce the speed of bowling and to improve helmets, but as we see today, it hasn't been enough.
