ENOUGH: Bill Cosby Is Countersuing His Accusers Because He Still Thinks We’re Stupid
There are 40 women who have gone on the record with accusations that they were victims of sexual misconduct by Bill Cosby at some point over the last 40 years. Cosby is now taking action against seven of those women, countersuing them for defamation by way of what Cosby's lawyer Monique Pressley calls "malicious, opportunistic, and false and defamatory accusations of sexual misconduct" in an attempt to hurt Cosby's reputation and to obtain financial gain.
It's highly unlikely that you don't know at least the basics of the allegations against Cosby, who cemented himself as a bonafide American icon in the 1980's on the family sitcom 'The Cosby Show.' I'm sure you've heard of it.
Most of the women tell a similar story; one that begins with him ingratiating himself into their lives as a kind of mentor or father-figure, then manipulating alone time with them in order to assault them; often after giving them some form of sedative. We still live in a country in which an unacceptably large number of people who hear these stories believe that they are made up by a group of women who have colluded in order to extort Cosby for money and/or attention; a formidable symptom of rape culture that has only recently begun to be addressed.
The person most likely lying and manipulating for monetary gain here is Cosby. Do you realize the level of egomaniacal, psychotic and delusional self-righteousness that a 79-year-old multi-millionaire would have to possess to actually countersue these women? If not, then I'll put it as bluntly as possible.
That's the same kind of egomanical, psychotic and delusional self-righteousness that empowers someone to rape in the first place.
Make no mistake about it; Cosby is doing this for one reason only and it has nothing to do with protecting his rights. This isn't about having his honorary doctorates restored. He's doing this because he actually believes he still has the power to shut these women up; to force them to once again succumb to the power that accompanies his celebrity.
Cosby thinks that the world is stupid enough to believe that FORTY women have come forward saying that they were raped, assaulted, or that he attempted to rape or assault them and that they are all lying. Allow me to clear something up, once and for all. WOMEN DON'T LIE ABOUT THAT. That's a full on fucking myth. Have there been instances of women, and men, lying about rape? Yes. But there are instances of just about everything you can think of. Such a miniscule percentage of rape claims are false that you'd have to be a complete imbecile to believe that's what is happening here.
Most women have, at some point in their lives, been sexually assaulted or escaped an attempted assault. That's not an experience that most people want to re-live, re-hash, or re-create in some twisted game of make believe. The arrogance Cosby has to possess in order to go through with countersuing these women is just more proof of his detachment from reality.
Screw Bill Cosby and the bullshit, entitled culture of rich, Hollywood elitism that he cowers behind.
He deserves to watch all of his syndication checks dwindle down to nothing. He deserves to be treated like the joke he has become as his lawyer offers up defenses like "Mr. Cosby is an Emmy Award winner, a 1998 Kennedy Center Honors recipient, and in 2002 Mr. Cosby was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom." As if all of those achievements make him incapable of being a criminal scumbag.
That's real nice that he won an Emmy. Too bad it will take a lot more than a funny sweater and some over-used moral anecodotes to convince me that Barbara Bowman was lying when she wrote this graphic description of her assault at your hands, which she shared in The Washington Post in Nov. 2014 in a piece entitled 'Bill Cosby raped me. Why did it take 30 years for people to believe my story?':
"...Cosby won my trust as a 17-year-old aspiring actress in 1985, brainwashed me into viewing him as a father figure, and then assaulted me multiple times. In one case, I blacked out after having dinner and one glass of wine at his New York City brownstone, where he had offered to mentor me and discuss the entertainment industry. When I came to, I was in my panties and a man’s t-shirt, and Cosby was looming over me. I’m certain now that he drugged and raped me. But as a teenager, I tried to convince myself I had imagined it. I even tried to rationalize it: Bill Cosby was going to make me a star and this was part of the deal. The final incident was in Atlantic City, where we had traveled for an industry event. I was staying in a separate bedroom of Cosby’s hotel suite, but he pinned me down in his own bed while I screamed for help. I’ll never forget the clinking of his belt buckle as he struggled to pull his pants off. I furiously tried to wrestle from his grasp until he eventually gave up, angrily called me 'a baby' and sent me home to Denver."
Here are a few more quotes from these women Cosby would have you believe are lying:
Tamara Green: “I couldn’t control my body. I couldn’t run...He was naked. I was naked on my bed. His hands were all over me.”
Cosby penetrated her vagina with his fingers and fondled his penis in front of her, Green said. “You’re going to have to kill me,” she remembers telling him. But he would not stop, she said, until she managed to upend a table lamp.
Linda Traits: "He drove out to the beach and opened a briefcase filled with assorted drugs and kept offering me pills 'to relax,' which I declined. He began to get sexually aggressive and wouldn’t take ‘No’ for an answer."
Joan Tarshis: "I don’t know what was in that drink, but it knocked me out. The next thing I remember after having that drink was waking up on his couch. was really foggy. He was trying to take my underwear off.”
She said in order to try to get out of a sexual encounter, she made up a story about having a genital infection.“If you have sex with me, your wife will know...He didn’t miss a beat. He knew exactly how to respond. He made me give him oral sex. It was pretty horrible.”
Victoria Valentino: “He was trying to cheer me up, and he stuck a pill in my mouth...He said, 'This will make us all feel better’...We were slurring words. I couldn’t function...I reached out, grabbing him, trying to get his attention, trying to distract him. He came over to me and sat down on the love seat and opened his fly and grabbed my head and pushed my head down. And then he turned me over. It was like a waking nightmare.”
Those are horrifying things for someone to endure. They are not cute stories told for attention. They are detailed memories of assaults that happened at the hands of a man who was sure that he would get away with it. And he did get away with it for far too long, which is why he cannot accept that these women have exposed him for the truly deploreable person that he actually is.
Cosby was never the great and powerful Oz; he was just a pathetic loser hiding behind the curtain trying to act like a god. The illusion is shattered, and his futile attempts to reconstruct it only further prove how delusional he really is.
