Ever Wanted To See FC Barcelona Get Turned Down From Practicing On The National Mall In Washington? Here You Go
FC Barcelona is as good as it gets in team sports - a fantastic collection of talent that also plays beautifully as a team. Lionel Messi looks like himself when he plays for them. They made Manchester United look almost nonexistent during the Champions League final. Make no mistake: they're a big deal.
But they're not such a big deal that they don't have to play by the rules - especially OUR rules, in AMERICA. To prepare for a (friendly) rematch against Man U on Saturday at FedEx Field, Barca set out for a training session...on the nearby National Mall in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately for them, before they could actually get down to business, a park officer requested to speak with the leader of the group...and soon after, manager Pep Guardiola (I could type that name all day) and his squad were boarding their bus and heading out.
The issue, according to star midfielder Xavi: the group was too big to be allowed on the Mall together. And while we're pretty sure the only threats Barcelona pose are to helpless defenses and human cuteness thresholds, the rules are the rules, and by God, if you're stepping foot on OUR National Mall, you'd best follow. U.S.A.! U.S.A.! Video of the team getting turned away below.
