Fox Sports-UFC Deal To Be One Of The “Biggest Announcements” In Either Company’s History
For years now, UFC has been on the verge of being considered a major sport in American culture, however, it's always lacked something that the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL have had: a network television deal.
That appears as if it's about to change, however, as Fox Sports is getting set to announce what it is referring to as one of the "biggest announcements in its 17-year history", which many are certain is a deal with UFC.
News of a Fox-UFC partnership first broke yesterday with this article in Sports Business Daily. But if news of such a deal is in fact legitimate, it will be an even bigger day in the history of UFC than it would be for Fox.
The multiyear deal would mark the first time the UFC will have consistent airtime on a broadcast network. Fox execs refused to comment on the deal, but sources with knowledge of the negotiations said bidding had gone as high as $90M per year. The Fox deal is believed to be for seven or eight years.
A deal with Fox will also allow the UFC to be showcased on Fox-owned channels such as FX and Fuel, although rumors of Fuel converting to an all-UFC channel are apparently not true.
A press conference to (presumably) announce the deal has been called for 1 p.m. today.
