Is “Player Kneeing Defenseless Opponent In The Face” The Dirtiest High School Soccer Play You’ve Ever Seen?
There are many ways to take out frustration during a sporting event. Some do it by yelling at themselves. Some angrily pound their fist into their hand. Others might kick the grass. Sometimes people knock over Gatorade coolers. Many yell at referees, opponents, or sometimes even teammates. Still others will just stand there with a forlorn/incredulous/helpless look. Thankfully, most don't do it by kneeing opponents in the face. But sometimes...
That happened at a high school girls soccer game in Utah a couple weeks back, though it just came to the attention of the public at large in recent days. The knee-er is Petiola Manu, a senior at East High in Salt Lake City. The kneed: Makenzie Clark of Woods Cross High. The incident: well, a little scary, although luckily Clark wasn't seriously hurt. As one might expect, Manu had to make a public apology once this video started making the rounds. While she noted of Clark, "I've never had a player mark me that hard," she also said:
"I'm so sorry. It was a physical game and I let my emotions get the best of me … It was nothing personal. I was just really frustrated with the game. I wasn't thinking."
Well... you'd hope not.
