Goalie Rips Out Goal To Halt A Breakaway (VIDEO)
This might just be the most creative hockey save I've ever had the pleasure of viewing. Sure, it's nice to see a butterfly goalie shoot his leg across the net to stop a one-timer. It's fun to see a behind-the-back glove save or a dive at a loose puck.
But in the end, none of that makes me smile quite as much as what David Leggio did. The AHL goalie for Bridgeport, an affiliate of the Islanders, had to think quick when a two-man breakaway developed with nobody back on defense. His response? Throw the goal on the ground.
Instead of a two-man rush, Leggio had to stop just a lone man after the linesmen called him for a delay of game and issued a penalty shot. Leggio turned the puck away, but Bridgeport still lost in the end.
I award him zero points for rule-following and ten points each for creativity and thinking on his feet, or, umm, skates.
