High School Cross Country Runner Breaks Leg In Three Places, Finishes Race Anyway By Crawling Across Finish Line
Connor Calihan's mom, Stephanie, wasn't exactly surprised when her son decided to finish a cross country race -- despite a leg broken in three places. "That's just the type of kid he is." Wow.
Calihan, a junior, was running for T.C. Roberson High (Asheville, NC), when a few yards from the finish, he felt his leg give, and fell to the ground.
But despite a lot of pain, he knew he had to finish.

According to the Citizen-Times, his leg "snapped like a twig", and broke in several places.
A doctor told Stephanie that Connor may have suffered a stress fracture well before Monday's race.
"He got to the finish and said 'My leg' and he just went down," Stephanie said. "He was in a lot of pain, but he crawled over the finish line. That's just the type of kid he is.
"The brotherhood on this team is just amazing, and Connor thinks the world of his teammates and of coach [Andrew] Devine. He didn't want to let them down. They're just an amazing group."
Fun fact: Roberson High is the alma mater for UNC men's basketball head coach Roy Williams.
