MLS Regular-Season Title Could Come Down To Final Game, LA At Seattle, Before 67,000 On National TV
You remember soccer, right? Don't pretend that you don't -- you guys were going steady during the World Cup, then abruptly broke it off. But I know that you still have feelings. So why not stop by these last two critical games for the Los Angeles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders over the next two weeks? You may find that the spark is still there. If not, there's always the food.
The Sounders and Galaxy face each other in a home-and-home in the final two games of their regular season, and it will decide the Supporters Shield, which is awarded to the regular-season champion. The two are tied in points right now after LA lost to Dallas on Sunday, 2-1, breaking the Galaxy's 10-game unbeaten streak. Since Seattle holds the tiebreaker, it needs just 2 points to claim the title (two draws or a win). LA needs 4 points (a win and a draw).
So it could all come down to the final match: Galaxy at Sounders at CenturyLink Field on Oct. 25, on NBC (2:30 p.m. ET). The stadium has a 67,000-seat capacity and most likely they'll fill it. It will be the final regular-season game for LA's Landon Donovan. Seattle has Clint Dempsey, and it will be the final time those two meet in the regular season. Both fan bases are crazy (which is good). It's gonna be LOUD.
And ... giant banners! (What's the name for these again, in soccer-ese?). You know that Sounders fans will come up with something special for the final game, like this one from 2012:
The first game will be this coming Sunday at StubHub Center in Carson, CA, on ESPN2 at 10 p.m. (ET), and it could decide things with a Seattle win.
By my figuring, Sounders need crowd of 62,840 in Oct. 25 finale vs. Galaxy to set sixth straight MLS attendance record.
