Peyton Manning Says That Colorado's New Weed Laws Have Been Good For His Pizza Business
Usually when weed and football collide, you get nonsensical suspensions that keep some of the NFL's best players off the field. But we've finally found a good story about a football player who is cool with weed -- probably because he doesn't use it to get high, but instead to fatten his pockets. Hooray, weed!
If you watch football, you've probably seen Peyton Manning hawk everything from sports drinks to cars during commercial breaks, but his most prominent spots are usually Papa John's ads. Manning owns nearly two dozen Papa John's locations, and in an interview with Peter King on MMQB, he said that Colorado's recent decision to legalize medical marijuana have been good for business.
This, for some reason, was part of his answer to the question "Do you vote?":
I’ve gotten to know some of the folks here in Colorado. There’s some different laws out here in Colorado. Pizza business is pretty good out here, believe it or not, due to some recent law changes. So when you come to a different place, you’ve kind of got to learn everything that comes with it.
This is a nice thought, but there are two things wrong with that reasoning:
1) Just because people are high doesn't mean they want to eat terrible pizza. (And no, the old adage that pizza is like sex -- even when it's bad, it's still pizza -- doesn't apply to Papa John's.)
2) There are signs that pot use among Colorado teens is still on the decline, despite pot legalization, and teens are more likely than adults to make irrational decisions like buying garbage pizza.
Still, it's great to see Manning have a sense of humor about this sort of thing. See, not all football players are terrible!
