Here’s Video Of Takeru Kobayashi Supposedly Eating A Record-Breaking 69 Hot Dogs
Joey Chestnut disgustingly shoved 62 hot dogs into his face yesterday to win the annual Nathan's International Hot Dog Eating Contest for the fifth straight time. However, the absence of Chestnut's would-be main competition, Takeru Kobayashi, made the victory a bit more hollow - especially since Kobayashi spent yesterday afternoon (allegedly) disgustingly shoving even more hot dogs into his face than Chestnut.
Kobayashi, unable to compete in the Nathan's contest due to an ongoing dispute with event organizers Major League Eating, instead held his own event on the roof of a Manhattan bar, and word from the event was that Kobayashi ate a record-breaking 69 hot dogs. Of course, it didn't come during the official competition, it probably won't be recognized for that reason, and there was plenty of doubt as to whether Kobayashi actually ate that many.
Now, though, there's video proving Kobayashi did indeed shove hot dogs into his system at a sickening pace yesterday, if not that he actually broke the record. Via Bob's Blitz, footage from the exiled Kobayashi's record attempt:
Nothing conclusive there as to whether the record was actually legitimate or not - there are several cuts, and the counter seems to be moving awfully fast at times (at :30 to :38, is he really eating that many?). But he does shove them down awfully fast, and this is a six-time Nathan's contest winner we're talking about. He's capable of breaking the record. But to us, the questions as to whether he actually did, even with this video, aren't fully resolved. AND EATING RECORDS DEMAND INTEGRITY, DAMMIT.
