The Promotional Video For The Palestinian National Men’s Soccer Team Is Much More Awesome Than The Team Itself
The next FIFA World Cup is still three years away, and Palestine has already been eliminated from qualification for it. Thailand knocked them out in July despite a swell of Palestinian support both at home and worldwide.
One product of this fanatical support for Palestine's chances at making it to Brazil in 2014 was this surreal promotional video for the team, which may even leave you feeling motivated to do something after you've watched it.
The music speaks for itself -- if you weren't pumping your fists in the air at some point, you're either missing fists or missing your hearing. But the visuals really bring this home; not only are we treated to the "highlights" of Palestine's team (they're 18-60 since 1998) but they're processed with a 1985-style strobe effect, turning pedestrian plays into what just might have been spectacular!
Of course, we don't just get in-game highlights. We also get highlights of:
* Fans (all jokes aside, a packed stadium is always cool to see, especially when that stadium is essentially adjacent to the Jerusalem border).
* Warm-up drills!
* Meeting and shaking hands with dignitaries!
* Old ladies in a frenzy!
I'm not sure any of these can stack up to the team dancing, which isn't so much a dance as it is a bunch of guys in a line, running while holding hands, as if you explained Red Rover to them but mixed up the rules. All hype videos should feature something along these lines. If you don't understand your opponent, you cannot defeat them, and Palestine's future opponents will simply be stupefied.
